Alonzo Menifield’s thumb suspension interrupts a late-career light heavyweight surge
Menifield fought through a possible fracture to secure his fourth win in five fights, but the unresolved injury makes his next matchup’s timing and prop profile impossible to price cleanly.
Alonzo Menifield left UFC 331 with a split-decision win, a damaged left thumb and a medical restriction that could interrupt his strongest run in years.
MMA Mania reported that the California State Athletic Commission issued 24 medical suspensions after UFC 331, with Menifield facing up to 180 days out unless a physician clears a possible left thumb fracture suffered during the first round of his three-round victory over Iwo Baraniewski.
That combination matters more than the suspension headline alone. Menifield did not merely emerge from a difficult fight with an injury discovered afterward. He completed two additional rounds and won on split cards while dealing with the compromised hand. The result moved him to 19-6-1 and kept him at No. 14 in the light heavyweight rankings, but it also introduced an unresolved variable before his next booking.
There is no immediate wager to make from that uncertainty. Menifield has no next bout attached in our database, and medical clearance would answer only whether he can compete—not whether his thumb has returned to a level that supports his normal punching and gripping mechanics.
The injury cuts directly into Menifield’s established offense
Menifield’s UFC data describes an offense built much more heavily around striking than takedown volume. He lands 3.84 significant strikes per minute at 53 percent accuracy, compared with 0.48 takedowns per 15 minutes and 0.2 submission attempts over the same span.

The round-level archive sharpens that picture. Across 39 tracked rounds, he has landed 644 significant strikes but only six takedowns. Of those significant strikes, 531 went to the head, against 62 to the body and 51 to the legs. He has also produced seven knockdowns.
