Amanda Nunes’ scouting claim adds intrigue, not proof, against Kayla Harrison
Nunes says old sparring sessions exposed persistent flaws, but the UFC 334 matchup will turn on whether her proven takedown defence survives a 1,229-day layoff.
Amanda Nunes has introduced a potentially valuable piece of information before her return against Kayla Harrison: direct experience.
Bloody Elbow reported that Nunes believes Harrison continues to make mistakes she identified when the two trained together. That history gives Nunes familiarity with Harrison’s pressure, physicality and reactions that ordinary fight tape cannot provide. It does not, however, identify the weakness or establish that it still exists.
That distinction matters for bettors. The interview changes the scouting context, but it does not yet support a specific wager. Nunes did not connect Harrison’s alleged mistakes to takedown entries, defensive transitions, distance management or any other repeatable mechanism.
The known matchup is compelling enough without filling those gaps. Nunes, 38, returns after 1,229 days away to meet the reigning bantamweight champion in a scheduled five-round fight at UFC 334 on Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden. Harrison, 36, will have been out for 501 days herself.

Nunes’ most important statistic is her 82 percent takedown defence
Harrison’s UFC offense has revolved around gaining contact, putting opponents underneath her and converting control into submissions. Across two archived UFC bouts and four rounds, she has landed four takedowns, accumulated 11 minutes of control and submitted both Holly Holm and Julianna Pena in the second round.

That is a clear process, but it is still only a two-fight UFC sample. Harrison’s 100 percent finish rate on UFC wins is not a stable career-level finishing baseline, and her 100 percent takedown defence has been tested across only those four rounds.
Nunes presents a deeper and more resistant body of work. She has defended 82 percent of takedown attempts across an 18-bout archive. Her 47 rounds of tracked data include 70 control minutes of her own, 38 completed takedowns and 10 submission attempts. Her career takedown rate is 2.73 per 15 minutes with 54 percent accuracy.
