Brendan Allen’s staph disclosure changes how bettors should grade his late finish
Allen submitted Christian Leroy Duncan in the fifth round while fighting an infection, but the health revelation is more useful for reviewing that performance than pricing an unbooked next fight.
Brendan Allen’s fifth-round submission of Christian Leroy Duncan already extended his winning streak to four. The post-fight disclosure adds important context to how bettors should grade the performance—but not enough information to turn his next appearance into an automatic betting opportunity.
MMA Mania reported that teammate Belal Muhammad said Allen had dealt with a staph infection since Tuesday of fight week, started antibiotics and still had five days of medication remaining after Saturday’s victory. The report also described footage of Allen walking gingerly, an emergency-room check-in and images of the infection on his back.
That matters because Allen did not merely get through an early sprint. He reached the fifth round and secured the submission, adding another late result to a résumé built more on grappling and sustained work than one-shot finishing power. It also raises a basic but unresolved question: How much did the infection and treatment suppress his performance against Duncan?
There is no verified answer yet. There is also no next opponent, bout date or betting market. For now, this is a grading adjustment, not a wager.
The finish reinforced Allen’s established route to victory
Allen’s 28-7 record includes 17 wins across 21 archived bouts. Nine of those victories came by submission, six by decision and two by knockout or technical knockout. His 65% finish rate across those 17 archived wins is supported primarily by submissions rather than striking stoppages.
The Duncan result fits that distribution. Allen’s career rates—1.52 takedowns and 1.1 submission attempts per 15 minutes—describe a fighter who can create finishing opportunities through grappling without needing to force an immediate breakthrough. Across 20 bouts with round data, he has accumulated 26 takedowns, 17 submission attempts and 75 minutes of control over 53 rounds.
