Charles Jourdain’s vision loss changes the betting read on his UFC 331 defeat
The third-round TKO ended Jourdain’s bantamweight winning streak, but the disclosed eye problem creates a larger risk question for his next booking.
Charles Jourdain’s loss to Marlon Vera now carries a medical variable that cannot be separated from the result. MMA Mania reported that Jourdain lost his eyesight during the third round at UFC 331 and stopped the fight himself rather than continue absorbing strikes; the outlet also reported that a retinal issue had canceled his scheduled June 2025 bout with Ricky Simon and required laser surgery.
The official result remains a third-round TKO loss. It snapped Jourdain’s three-fight winning streak and moved his record to 18-9-1, including 9-8 across 18 archived UFC bouts. More importantly for bettors, the explanation changes how the Vera fight should enter any future assessment of Jourdain.
This was not merely another late stoppage to file under declining durability. Nor can it be dismissed as a freak result with no predictive value. Sudden vision loss directly affects range judgment, strike recognition and defensive reactions — mechanisms central to a fighter who operates at a high striking pace and absorbs meaningful return volume.
The market paid heavily for Jourdain’s bantamweight run
Jourdain entered UFC 331 as a substantial favorite. His available prices ranged from -198 at Bovada to -220 at Caesars, with most books clustered between -200 and -215. Vera was available from +168 to +180.
That support had a coherent basis. Jourdain had won his first three recorded bantamweight appearances, submitting Victor Henry in the second round, submitting Davey Grant in the first and taking a unanimous decision over Kyler Phillips. The streak showed more than one route to victory: early grappling finishes in two bouts, followed by a full-distance win.

The sample still covered only three fights at the weight, however. UFC 331 exposed the danger of treating that run as proof that every older vulnerability had disappeared. Jourdain had already suffered a second-round knockout loss to Jean Silva immediately before moving to bantamweight. Vera then handed him another stoppage defeat, this time in the third.
