Chelsea Chandler’s UFC Edmonton comeback exposes both the value and danger in her submission profile
Chandler cashed as a sizeable underdog with another first-round submission, but the route to victory reinforced defensive risks that future markets cannot ignore.
Chelsea Chandler turned a compromised position into a first-round submission at UFC Edmonton, extending her winning streak while delivering for bettors who took a substantial plus price.
Cageside Press reported that Melissa Croden hurt Chandler with punches, later put her on her back and then tapped to a kimura at 4:52 of the opening round. That sequence matters beyond the result. Chandler did not simply impose a clean wrestling game on a vulnerable opponent; she absorbed damaging offense, survived from underneath and attacked the arm during a scramble.
The win moved Chandler to 8-4 and gave her consecutive first-round submissions. It also rewarded backers at prices ranging from +265 to +275 across seven tracked sportsbooks. That does not automatically make the same bet attractive next time. The performance showed a credible submission mechanism, but it also exposed how much danger Chandler may have to navigate before accessing it.

The underdog ticket cashed through a secondary route
The pre-fight moneyline treated Chandler as a clear outsider. DraftKings and Bovada listed her at +275, BetOnline had +273, BetUS and FanDuel posted +270, and Caesars and BetRivers offered +265. Croden ranged from -335 to -360 on the same board.
Chandler’s path to the upset was mechanically important. Her career numbers do not describe a takedown-heavy grappler: she averages 0.81 takedowns per 15 minutes and 0.3 submission attempts over the same span. Her 60 percent takedown accuracy is useful but comes with limited volume. Across six bouts with available round data, she landed three takedowns and logged 16 control minutes over 12 rounds.

Against Croden, however, Chandler did not need to create the decisive ground exchange herself. Croden took top position, and Chandler converted the resulting scramble into the finish. That distinction changes how bettors should interpret the win. Chandler’s submission threat can operate defensively and opportunistically, not only after a successful entry or sustained top control.
