Kayla Harrison’s weight cut adds volatility to the Amanda Nunes handicap
Harrison’s early sauna work matters most in the later rounds, but her control-heavy UFC sample and Nunes’ longer layoff prevent a clean betting conclusion.
Kayla Harrison has begun the most consequential phase of her preparation for Amanda Nunes well before their five-round meeting at UFC 334 on Nov. 14.
Bloody Elbow reported that Harrison was already using the sauna about a month before the fight and described her planned descent to 135 pounds as a cut of more than 35 pounds; the report also cited her previous hospitalization during a bantamweight cut and an ongoing neck issue that required surgery. Those details introduce a legitimate conditioning question for a fighter returning from 494 days away.
The booking remains intact. Harrison and Nunes are scheduled to meet at Madison Square Garden in New York, with no withdrawal reported. The immediate betting significance is not that Harrison will necessarily perform worse. It is that a difficult cut can affect several different mechanisms — pace, repeat wrestling, durability and recovery between rounds — and those mechanisms point toward different markets rather than one automatic side.

Harrison’s offense has depended on sustained physical control
Harrison’s available UFC sample is dominant but narrow: two archived bouts, four completed rounds and two second-round submission victories. She controlled Holly Holm and Julianna Peña for a combined 11 minutes, landed four takedowns at 50 percent accuracy and attempted two submissions. Her 81 significant strikes came at 65 percent accuracy, with no knockdowns.

That profile matters because Harrison has not needed to win long-range striking exchanges over extended periods. Her offense has combined takedown entries, control and ground damage until a submission became available. Her career rates reinforce the shape of that approach: 2.84 takedowns and 0.9 submission attempts per 15 minutes, alongside 4.29 significant strikes landed per minute.
The weight-cut update therefore touches Harrison’s takedown and method-of-victory markets more directly than a simple moneyline assessment. Repeated entries require more than one explosive effort. They require grip strength, positional pressure and enough recovery to attack again after a defended shot or scramble. If the cut reduces those qualities, Harrison could lose the mechanism behind both of her archived UFC wins.

Amanda Nunes’ scouting claim adds intrigue, not proof, against Kayla Harrison
Nunes says old sparring sessions exposed persistent flaws, but the UFC 334 matchup will turn on whether her proven takedown defence survives a 1,229-day layoff.

Lone’er Kavanagh’s variety meets Ramazan Temirov’s concentrated power at UFC 333
Temirov’s five knockdowns create the obvious danger, but Kavanagh’s reach, target diversity and deeper grappling record complicate every finish-based betting angle.
