Malcolm Wellmaker’s ATT move puts his wrestling response under the microscope against Otari Tanzilovi
Wellmaker changed camps after consecutive losses, but his UFC Fight Night matchup targets the exact defensive phase that a new training room must prove it has repaired.
Malcolm Wellmaker did not change camps to polish a winning formula. He left his longtime team in Georgia for American Top Team after the first two losses of his professional career, a reset that now leads directly into Saturday’s three-round bantamweight fight with Otari Tanzilovi at the Meta APEX.
MMA Mania first reported the move and Wellmaker’s account of the confidence hit that followed his second-round submission loss to Juan Diaz. The timing gives the story betting relevance: Tanzilovi is the most takedown-oriented opponent in the available data, while Wellmaker has defended only 46 percent of the takedowns attempted against him.
That does not automatically make Tanzilovi the side. It does identify the phase that should decide whether Wellmaker’s relocation has produced anything actionable. This is his first fight since the move, so bettors have no post-change performance to grade.
A camp change aimed at a measurable weakness
Wellmaker reached his current 10-2 record behind damaging, accurate striking. He lands 4.58 significant strikes per minute at 55 percent accuracy, and all three wins in his five-fight archive came by first-round knockout or TKO. Those victories included Cameron Saaiman and Kris Moutinho in consecutive UFC appearances, after a first-round stoppage of Adam Bramhald on the Contender Series.

The limitations of that finishing profile matter. Three archived wins are not enough to treat a 100 percent knockout rate on wins as a stable expectation, especially after Wellmaker failed to finish either of his next two opponents. Ethyn Ewing took him through three rounds in a unanimous-decision loss, and Diaz submitted him in Round 2.
Across four bouts with round-level data, Wellmaker landed 123 significant strikes over seven rounds, scored two knockdowns and produced no takedowns or submission attempts. He logged only one minute of control. His offense has not used wrestling as a meaningful secondary route.
