Patricio Pitbull’s UFC 331 Price Hinges on a Narrow Grappling Path Against Doo Ho Choi
Pitbull’s recent takedown activity gives the underdog a workable mechanism, but limited control time and a damaging striking differential make the available price difficult to judge as clear value.
UFC 331 puts Patricio Pitbull’s remaining contender case under immediate pressure. MMA Fighting’s live report identified the Los Angeles matchup with Doo Ho Choi, listed Choi at 17-4-1 and highlighted three consecutive knockout wins over Daniel Santos, Nate Landwehr and Bill Algeo.
That finishing streak shaped a lopsided pre-fight market. Choi ranged from -260 at BetOnline to -300 at Caesars when prices were observed Sept. 19. Pitbull was available between +215 and +240.
The betting question is not whether the 39-year-old Pitbull still carries a recognizable résumé. It is whether his recent UFC work supplies a repeatable way to beat Choi often enough to justify an underdog ticket. The available evidence points toward wrestling as that mechanism, but it does not establish that Pitbull can control the fight for long stretches.
The market leaves no room for careless price selection
The five-book board showed meaningful disagreement despite unanimous support for Choi. A favorite bettor could choose -260 rather than lay -300 for the same outcome. On the other side, Pitbull’s best number was +240 at Caesars, compared with +215 at BetRivers and +216 at BetOnline.
That difference matters because there is no statistical basis in the packet for declaring either side mispriced. PropBetEdge has three archived UFC bouts for Pitbull but no corresponding opponent database profile for Choi. Choi’s reported knockout run explains the direction of the market; it does not, by itself, quantify how his takedown defense, pace or defensive striking match up with Pitbull.
Price shopping is therefore the clearest actionable point. Anyone backing Choi was paying substantially more at the worst number without receiving a different proposition. Anyone backing Pitbull needed the full +240 because his UFC sample has not demonstrated a broad margin for error.
