Regina Tarin’s win over JJ Aldrich strengthens the case for volume, not proven wrestling immunity

Regina Tarin cleared the most experienced test of her young UFC run at Noche UFC, but the result requires a narrower betting interpretation than the headline suggests. LowKick MMA reported that Tarin defeated JJ Aldrich by unanimous decision, winning 29-28 on all three cards after Aldrich went 0-for-3 on takedowns, which moved Tarin to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the UFC.

That result matters because Aldrich entered the week ranked No. 15 at flyweight and carried 17 archived UFC bouts into the matchup. Tarin entered with one UFC appearance in our archive: a three-round unanimous decision over Ernesta Kareckaite in February.

The win adds a credible opponent and a second completed UFC distance to Tarin’s résumé. It does not yet establish that she can neutralize every wrestling-first matchup, and it does not retroactively prove that laying between -280 and -310 was valuable.

Tarin’s volume remains the clearest repeatable weapon

Tarin’s pre-fight statistical profile pointed first to pace. She landed 7.6 significant strikes per minute in her limited UFC sample, compared with Aldrich’s career rate of 3.92. That 3.68-strike gap was the largest measurable matchup advantage in the database.

The mechanism was more important than the raw difference. Aldrich historically has not built fights around sustained wrestling volume. Across 48 tracked rounds, she landed 11 takedowns at 26 percent accuracy and accumulated 39 minutes of control. Her career rate sat at 0.7 takedowns per 15 minutes. When her entries failed against Tarin, she lacked a second high-output phase capable of erasing Tarin’s striking activity.
