Roman Kopylov’s UFC 332 upset reinforces his knockout path — not a blanket buy signal
Kopylov cashed as high as +205 by forcing Ateba Gautier to overextend, but his broader numbers still demand matchup-specific pricing.
Roman Kopylov turned a speed advantage into a first-round stoppage at UFC 332, beating Ateba Gautier by TKO at 3:12 and delivering for bettors who took plus money across the board.
Cageside Press reported that Kopylov controlled the center, used kicks and quick left hands to make Gautier chase, then hurt him with a jab before a right hook produced the knockdown and ground-and-pound forced the stoppage. That sequence matters more than the upset label. Kopylov did not simply survive Gautier’s power and land a random fight-ending shot; he manipulated range until Gautier began lunging into exchanges.
The result moved Kopylov to 15-5 and gave him consecutive wins after back-to-back decision losses. It also punished a market that had installed Gautier between -230 and -250 at the seven tracked books. Kopylov was available from +188 to +205, with Bovada posting the highest observed return.
The finish matched Kopylov’s established offensive profile
Kopylov’s route to victory fits a larger body of evidence. Across 13 archived bouts, he has eight wins, including six by knockout or TKO. His 75% finish rate on wins carries a meaningful sample behind it, although it should not be confused with a 75% chance to finish any given opponent. Two of his eight victories went to decision, and he had completed three rounds in each of his previous two fights before UFC 332.

The round-level data also explains why his knockout threat remains credible. Kopylov has recorded nine knockdowns over 32 tracked rounds. He has landed 668 significant strikes in those rounds, with 441 directed to the head, 128 to the body and 99 to the legs. Roughly two-thirds of his tracked significant-strike output has gone upstairs.
That target distribution connects directly to the Gautier finish: lower-line attacks and range work created reactions, but the decisive sequence came through the head. For future method-of-victory and fight-does-not-go-the-distance markets, the relevant mechanism is Kopylov’s ability to layer kicks with fast straight and hooking attacks rather than rely on one isolated power punch.
