Tsarukyan-Ruffy betting preview: Wrestling pressure meets a narrow knockout path at UFC 331
Tsarukyan’s sustained wrestling gives him the clearest route across five rounds, but Ruffy’s reach, accuracy and knockdown production keep the favorite’s moneyline price from becoming automatic.

MMA Mania reported that Mauricio Ruffy moved his training camp to work with Alexander Volkanovski ahead of Saturday’s five-round lightweight fight with Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 331 in Los Angeles. The move targets the right problem: Ruffy’s lone loss across seven archived bouts came by second-round submission to Benoît Saint Denis, while Tsarukyan enters with the takedown output and sustained control to attack that same weakness.
The market has already assigned Tsarukyan a steep price. He ranges from -305 at BetRivers to -360 at Bovada, while Ruffy runs from +230 at BetRivers to +290 at Bovada. Bettors interested in either side should shop first: BetRivers offers the cheapest Tsarukyan moneyline in the observed market, and Bovada has the highest Ruffy return.
Price comparison does not settle the handicapping question. This fight turns on whether Ruffy’s apparent grappling improvement can withstand Tsarukyan’s repeated entries for more than a few isolated exchanges.
Tsarukyan can force the fight into his highest-volume phase
Tsarukyan averages 3.26 takedowns per 15 minutes and has landed 32 takedowns across 12 bouts with round data. Those fights produced 62 minutes of control over 32 rounds. That is not a style inferred from one favorable matchup; it is a repeated method supported by a much broader sample than Ruffy’s UFC-level grappling data.

The key is accumulation. Tsarukyan does not need every initial attempt to succeed. His 37 percent career takedown accuracy shows that failed entries are part of the process. Pressure, re-attacks and prolonged clinch sequences can still reduce the time Ruffy has available to operate at range. Over five scheduled rounds, that mechanism touches the moneyline, takedown markets, total rounds and Tsarukyan-by-decision or submission outcomes.
Ruffy’s 86 percent takedown defense is the main counterpoint. It leads Tsarukyan’s 75 percent defensive mark by 11 percentage points, although the comparison does not answer whether Ruffy can preserve that rate against this specific level of repeat wrestling. Ruffy has logged only 10 rounds across six bouts with round data. Tsarukyan has logged 32 rounds across 12.
