Volkanovski-Evloev Faceoff Adds No Signal, but UFC 333’s Style Clash Does
The ceremony changes nothing for bettors; Evloev’s takedown pressure, Volkanovski’s defensive layers and both men’s decision-heavy records define the five-round matchup.

MMA Fighting reported that Alexander Volkanovski and Movsar Evloev shared a calm, respectful first faceoff ahead of their Oct. 24 meeting at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi. The report describes the bout as Volkanovski’s second defense of his reclaimed featherweight title, but PropBetEdge’s current bout record labels the announced five-round main event as non-title despite listing Volkanovski as champion and Evloev as the No. 1 contender.
That designation needs to be reconciled before bettors rely on title-specific rules or listings. The faceoff itself requires no adjustment. Neither fighter revealed an injury, physical anomaly or strategic clue. The useful information sits in a matchup that pits Volkanovski’s pace and layered offense against the most persistent takedown game he has faced in his recent featherweight run.
Evloev’s pressure is built on repetition, not finishing threat
Evloev enters at 20-0, with all 10 of his archived wins coming by decision. Across 32 tracked rounds, he has landed 51 takedowns and accumulated 57 minutes of control. His career averages — 4.78 takedowns per 15 minutes at 52 percent accuracy — describe a fighter who can keep returning to entries rather than needing the first attempt to work.

That distinction matters against Volkanovski. A 68 percent career takedown-defense rate is solid, but it does not answer how he will handle repeated shots, mat returns and clinch sequences over 25 minutes. Evloev’s route is less about one clean takedown than forcing Volkanovski to defend enough exchanges that his striking volume becomes harder to sustain.
The evidence points more toward control and round accumulation than a submission finish. Evloev has recorded only two submission attempts in 32 tracked rounds, matching a modest career rate of 0.2 attempts per 15 minutes. He also has zero knockdowns and no finishes across the 10-bout archive. His latest win over Lerone Murphy was a five-round split decision, following unanimous decisions over Aljamain Sterling, Arnold Allen, Diego Lopes and Dan Ige.

Nunes says old sparring sessions exposed persistent flaws, but the UFC 334 matchup will turn on whether her proven takedown defence survives a 1,229-day layoff.

Temirov’s five knockdowns create the obvious danger, but Kavanagh’s reach, target diversity and deeper grappling record complicate every finish-based betting angle.
