Yazmin Jauregui’s Return Knockout Reopens the Finish-Prop Question
A first-round stoppage after a two-year absence reinforces Jauregui’s striking upside, but her small UFC sample and two decision wins limit the case for blindly chasing early finishes.
Yazmin Jauregui did more than end a two-year absence Saturday. She immediately restored the most dangerous part of her betting profile.
Cageside Press reported that a counter right started the finishing sequence against Vanessa Demopoulos, who was trapped near the fence before Jauregui completed the knockout with punches at 1:02 of the first round. The report also identified Jauregui’s absence as an injury layoff.
The win moved Jauregui to 12-2 and gave her a fourth victory across six archived UFC bouts. More importantly for bettors, it supplied fresh evidence that her pressure and hand speed can still produce abrupt endings after she went without a fight from September 2024 to September 2026.
It does not, by itself, establish that Jauregui should be priced as a consistent early finisher. Her underlying UFC record remains split between knockouts and decisions, and the pre-fight moneyline had already assigned her an overwhelming chance of beating Demopoulos.
The layoff question received a fast answer
Jauregui’s previous appearance ended in a first-round submission loss to Ketlen Souza on Sept. 14, 2024. Her return lasted barely a minute and never required her to navigate extended exchanges, defensive wrestling or later-round fatigue.
That distinction matters. Saturday answered whether Jauregui could regain immediate offensive sharpness after the absence. It did not answer whether she can maintain her customary pace for 15 minutes or prevent another fight from turning sharply against her.

Her career numbers describe an aggressive, strike-first fighter: 6.64 significant strikes landed per minute against 5.25 absorbed, with 39% accuracy and 54% striking defense. Across five bouts with round-level data, she landed 282 significant strikes in 10 rounds. The target distribution was head-heavy but not one-dimensional: 176 head strikes, 47 to the body and 59 to the legs.
