Aaron Pico’s push for control changes the UFC 333 betting equation against Losene Keita
Pico says he has replaced his finish-first mindset with patience, but Keita’s power and untested takedown resistance make the practical betting effect difficult to price.
Aaron Pico is trying to remove the volatility from his own game before facing an opponent equipped to punish any relapse.
MMA Mania reported that Pico acknowledged fighting “out of control” in the past and said he now wants to “cook the fight” rather than force an early ending. That adjustment enters a live test against Losene Keita in a three-round featherweight bout on the UFC 333 main card Saturday at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Pico, ranked No. 11 at featherweight as of Oct. 21, is 14-5 overall and 1-1 through two archived UFC appearances. Keita is 17-2 overall with the same 1-1 UFC split. Pico’s change in intent matters because his available numbers describe two distinct routes: high-output offense and repeat wrestling entries. A more measured version does not necessarily mean a low-activity version. It could mean choosing the safer route more consistently.

Pico’s patience matters most if it improves his transitions
The central betting question is not whether Pico appears calmer. It is whether that restraint allows him to connect phases without giving Keita clean counters.

Across four tracked UFC rounds, Pico landed 113 significant strikes and eight takedowns while accumulating five minutes of control. His career UFC rates stand at 6.16 significant strikes landed per minute and 6.54 takedowns per 15 minutes. He has landed 53% of his significant strikes and 50% of his takedown attempts.
That is an unusually active statistical profile, but it comes from only two archived UFC bouts. Pico lost his debut to Lerone Murphy by first-round knockout or technical knockout, then defeated Patricio Pitbull by unanimous decision. His UFC sample contains one early loss and one full-length win, not enough evidence to declare that the risk problem has been solved.
