Niko Price’s likely farewell sets up violence, not a clean betting edge, against Leon Shahbazyan
Price’s retirement plan adds stakes to UFC Fight Night, but the actionable case rests on two vulnerable defensive profiles and a dangerously small sample for his opponent.
Niko Price expects his return against Leon Shahbazyan to function as a final UFC appearance, turning a welterweight preliminary bout into a possible farewell for one of the promotion’s more volatile action fighters.
Bloody Elbow reported that Price views this comeback as a one-fight return unless another lucrative opportunity changes the calculation. The 37-year-old faces Shahbazyan in a scheduled three-round bout at UFC Fight Night: Allen vs. Duncan at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
That retirement language is meaningful context, but it is not a betting system. A declared farewell does not establish improved conditioning, greater urgency or a tactical change. Bettors should resist converting career sentiment into a Price moneyline position without evidence that it changes how he fights.
The measurable matchup points elsewhere: Both men have produced damaging offense while allowing opponents unusually clean access in return. That makes the bout’s duration and method markets more interesting than the retirement narrative, although Shahbazyan’s limited archive prevents a high-confidence conclusion.

Price’s recent losses have closed the margin for error
Price enters after four consecutive defeats. Michael Chiesa submitted him in the first round in March, Nikolay Veretennikov stopped him by first-round knockout in February, and Jacobe Smith submitted him in the second round last June. Themba Gorimbo won a three-round unanimous decision before that. Price’s last victory was a unanimous decision over Alex Morono in June 2024.
The mechanisms behind that decline matter more than the losing streak itself. Price absorbs 5.57 significant strikes per minute while defending 48 percent of opponents’ significant-strike attempts. He has also been finished nine times across 21 archived bouts, including in each of his last three appearances.
