Francisco Prado’s 35-pound rebound complicates the Ismael Bonfim betting case
Prado may enter the cage heavier after Bonfim’s major miss, but Bonfim still owns the cleaner striking metrics in a volatile three-round matchup.
Francisco Prado accepted a lightweight fight under abnormal conditions, then added another variable of his own before facing Ismael Bonfim at the Meta APEX.
MMA Mania reported that Bonfim weighed 163.5 pounds, 7.5 pounds above the 156-pound limit, while Prado accepted 25% of Bonfim’s purse and later shared a photo showing 190 pounds—a 35-pound increase in 24 hours. The fight remains announced for three rounds on the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night: Allen vs. Duncan in Las Vegas.
That changes the handicap, but not in the simplistic direction suggested by the scale. A large rebound can create a functional strength advantage in clinches, takedown exchanges and pocket collisions. It can also impair pace if the added weight comes with poor recovery or sluggish movement. Bonfim’s miss creates a parallel uncertainty: he could benefit from cutting less than intended, or he could have missed because the cut had already gone wrong.
The available information establishes the size event. It does not establish which man recovered better.

Prado’s added mass matters most in close-range exchanges
Prado is listed at 5-foot-10, two inches taller than Bonfim, but Bonfim owns a 2.5-inch reach advantage. That makes Prado’s reported rebound more relevant in contact phases than at long range. Extra mass does not erase a reach deficit or improve shot selection. It can matter when Prado gets chest-to-chest, forces Bonfim backward or makes him carry weight against the fence.
Prado has produced 12 minutes of control across six bouts with round data, compared with four minutes for Bonfim over the same number of tracked bouts. Prado also has four takedowns and four submission attempts across 16 rounds. The problem is efficiency: he lands only 0.76 takedowns per 15 minutes, converts 19% of his attempts and owns 40% takedown defence.
