Francisco Prado’s Ground Finish Changes the Read After Four Straight Decision Losses
Prado converted pressure into a first-round stoppage against Ismael Bonfim, but the extreme weight miss and his thin finishing sample complicate the betting takeaway.
Francisco Prado interrupted a four-fight losing streak with the kind of result his recent UFC record lacked: a first-round stoppage built through pressure, a takedown and sustained ground-and-pound.
Cageside Press reported that Ismael Bonfim missed weight by 7.5 pounds before Prado stopped him by TKO at 4:23 of the opening round at UFC Vegas 122. That miss is central to any betting interpretation. Prado produced the finish, but Bonfim entered under abnormal circumstances severe enough to limit how confidently bettors should carry this performance into Prado’s next matchup.
The closing moneyline still treated Prado as the more likely winner. Seven tracked books priced him from -142 to -150, with Bonfim available between +120 and +124. Prado justified that position emphatically, although the path mattered more than the winning ticket.
Prado found a different route through the fight
The finish did not come from clean long-range dominance. Prado pressured, absorbed offense while trying to enter, then changed the fight by getting Bonfim down. He stayed attached through Bonfim’s attempts to stand, returned him to the floor and created the stoppage with strikes from top position.
That mechanism deserves attention because Prado’s broader statistical profile does not identify him as a reliable takedown operator. Across six bouts with round-level data, he landed four takedowns at 19% accuracy. His career rate sits at 0.76 takedowns per 15 minutes, also with 19% accuracy. He has accumulated 12 minutes of control across 16 tracked rounds, so there is evidence that he can hold useful positions once he secures them. The difficult part has been getting there consistently.
