Jacobe Smith’s decision over Randy Brown adds a new layer to his finishing profile
Smith traded his usual early finish for three rounds of takedowns, top control and elbows, expanding the mechanisms bettors must price in his next matchup.
Jacobe Smith had never needed the judges across the five fights in PropBetEdge’s archive. Randy Brown changed that without changing the winner.
Smith defeated Brown by unanimous decision in the UFC Vegas 123 co-main event, BJPenn.com reported. Rather than producing another quick stoppage, Smith built the result through repeated takedowns, positional control and damaging elbows from top position across three rounds.
That distinction matters. Smith’s prior results advertised a fast finisher: four knockouts or TKOs and one submission in his five archived wins. Brown forced him into a different kind of fight, and Smith still found a repeatable route to winning rounds. For bettors, the result expands the relevant markets beyond Smith’s moneyline and early-finish props. His takedowns, round totals and fight-goes-the-distance markets now require more attention whenever an opponent can survive the first exchange but cannot consistently deny his entries.

Smith replaced the early finish with repeatable control
Smith opened by attacking Brown’s legs and body before converting a double-leg takedown in the first round. Brown threatened from his back, including with a triangle setup, but Smith adjusted his position and remained on top.
The pattern held in the second. Smith again drove through a double leg, worked out of Brown’s rubber guard and began landing elbows. Brown pursued an armbar and created offense from the bottom, but those threats did not produce an escape or force Smith to abandon top position. Smith’s elbows opened a cut, and Brown surrendered his back during a late scramble.
Smith completed another takedown in the third, reached side control and briefly secured a crucifix. Brown escaped that position but not the broader cycle: scramble, guard, short body work and elbows. Smith stayed attached through the final horn.
