Robert Whittaker-Bogdan Guskov Booking Tests Whether the Sydney Return Is More Than a Reset
Whittaker’s first light-heavyweight win restored his finishing threat, but the available data cannot yet establish a betting edge against Guskov.

Robert Whittaker’s move to 205 pounds now has a second assignment—and a homecoming attached to it. MMA Fighting reported that Whittaker will face Bogdan Guskov in the UFC Sydney co-main event on Feb. 6 at Afterpay Arena, marking Whittaker’s first Australian appearance since 2019 and his first Sydney bout since 2014; the report lists Guskov at 18-4-1 and coming off a fifth-round knockout loss to Magomed Ankalaev.
The booking gives the 35-year-old Whittaker a chance to build on July’s third-round knockout of Nikita Krylov, which ended a two-fight skid and opened his light-heavyweight run successfully. PropBetEdge’s database has Whittaker at 28-9 and ranked No. 11 in the division as of Nov. 1.
For bettors, the announcement creates a matchup to study rather than an immediate wager. No verified odds are available, no graded model output exists, and the packet contains no linked bout data or statistical profile for Guskov. That prevents a responsible side, total or prop position. What the Whittaker data can do is define the mechanisms that will matter once the missing information arrives.
Whittaker’s offense still runs through pace and head attacks
Whittaker has landed 4.41 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.40, giving him a positive striking differential across a substantial archive. His 43% accuracy is paired with 59% striking defense, evidence of an approach built more on activity, movement and repeated entries than exceptional single-shot efficiency.
The target distribution is especially relevant for method-of-victory and knockdown-related analysis. Across 73 tracked rounds, Whittaker has landed 1,489 significant strikes: 1,069 to the head, 267 to the legs and 153 to the body. He has recorded 12 knockdowns over that sample.
