Islam Makhachev’s UFC 336 refusal freezes the matchup, not his betting profile
The welterweight champion’s contract dispute removes any immediate wager while sharpening the variables bettors must track before his next defense.
BJPenn.com reported that Islam Makhachev declined a UFC 336 return after verbally agreeing to fight, with UFC CEO Dana White identifying money as a major factor and Carlos Prates and Michael Morales set to contest an interim welterweight title in January.
That creates a divisional delay, but not yet a usable betting edge. Makhachev has no confirmed opponent or bout, and the stated financial motive comes from White’s interpretation rather than a disclosed contract demand from the champion. Without a booking, bettors cannot convert the dispute into a matchup-specific position.
The useful work now is separating what has actually changed from what has not. Makhachev remains the welterweight champion and No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter as of Nov. 4. He is 29-1 overall, has won all five of his most recent appearances and last fought only 81 days ago. The UFC 336 decision begins a period of uncertainty; it does not establish a damaging layoff.
The delay interrupts activity, not demonstrated form
Makhachev’s last two fights both went five rounds and ended in unanimous decisions: Ian Machado Garry on Aug. 15, 2026, and Jack Della Maddalena on Nov. 15, 2025. Those results matter more than the public contract friction when his next fight is eventually booked. They show that his current run is not dependent on forcing an early finish.
The three fights before those decisions ended inside the distance. Makhachev submitted Renato Moicano in the first round, submitted Dustin Poirier in the fifth and stopped Alexander Volkanovski in the first. Across the 18 wins in our 19-fight archive, he has eight submissions, three knockouts or TKOs and seven decisions. His 61% finish rate applies only to those 18 archived wins, not to every victory on his 29-1 record.

Merab Dvalishvili’s Yan Problem Is About Converting Pressure, Not Creating More of It
TJ Dillashaw’s proposed fix could alter Dvalishvili’s takedown and striking markets, but bettors need evidence of a tactical change before pricing it in.
Julian Erosa’s retirement closes one of the UFC’s most volatile betting profiles
Erosa leaves after a first-round stoppage, ending a 32-14 career defined by high-output striking, defensive exposure and multiple finishing routes.
