Jack Della Maddalena Delays His Return — but Bettors Still Need the Matchup
The No. 4 welterweight passed on Sydney after consecutive losses, extending his reset without yet creating a bettable recovery angle.
Jack Della Maddalena is choosing preparation over another hometown deadline.
Bloody Elbow reported that Della Maddalena declined an opportunity to fight on the February 6 Sydney card, plans to return around April or May 2027 and would leave the opponent selection to the UFC despite showing interest in Mike Malott.
The decision matters because Della Maddalena has just experienced the first two-fight losing streak in his 11-bout archive. Islam Makhachev beat him by unanimous decision over five rounds in November 2025. Carlos Prates then stopped him in the third round on May 2. Della Maddalena remains active and ranked No. 4 at welterweight, but he is no longer moving through the division on uninterrupted momentum.
For bettors, the delayed return changes the preparation timeline. It does not yet establish that Della Maddalena will return improved, healthier or better equipped for a particular opponent. There is no booked bout, and the added time cannot be priced as an advantage without knowing what changed in his game.
A longer reset interrupts a sharp change in results
Della Maddalena entered the Makhachev fight with nine wins in his first nine archived appearances. That run included a five-round unanimous decision over Belal Muhammad in a title fight, a third-round stoppage of Gilbert Burns and a split decision over Kevin Holland.
The next two results exposed two different outcome risks. Makhachev extended him across five rounds and won on the cards. Prates became the first opponent in the archive to finish him. The result log alone does not prove that the same technical weakness caused both losses, so bettors should resist collapsing them into a generic decline narrative.

TJ Dillashaw’s proposed fix could alter Dvalishvili’s takedown and striking markets, but bettors need evidence of a tactical change before pricing it in.

Erosa leaves after a first-round stoppage, ending a 32-14 career defined by high-output striking, defensive exposure and multiple finishing routes.
