Petr Yan’s next opponent is unsettled, but his betting profile is not
Sean O’Malley and Song Yadong are in contention, while Yan’s five-fight decision streak already points bettors toward duration and volume markets once a matchup is booked.
Petr Yan has two possible challengers and no confirmed next assignment one day after beating Merab Dvalishvili. Bloody Elbow reported that UFC CEO Dana White identified Sean O’Malley and Song Yadong as the two options under discussion; the report also noted that O’Malley owns a decision win over Yan and that Yan previously beat Song.
The choice matters beyond name value. Yan’s recent record has become unusually consistent: five consecutive unanimous-decision wins, including two five-round victories over Dvalishvili. That sequence pushes the early betting discussion toward duration, decision method and significant-strike markets rather than an unsupported prediction about which contender presents the tougher fight.
There is no matchup to handicap fully yet. PropBetEdge has detailed data on Yan but no corresponding opponent dataset attached to this story. The useful work, for now, is identifying the mechanisms that have driven his current run and establishing what the eventual challenger must disrupt.
Yan has built a repeatable decision profile
Yan is 21-5 overall and has never been stopped across the 17 bouts in the PropBetEdge archive. He has won 13 of those fights, with nine victories by decision, four by knockout or TKO and none by submission. His 31 percent finish rate on wins is meaningful across that 17-bout archive, but his immediate form is even clearer: every one of his last five victories reached the scorecards.
Those wins cover different lengths and opponents. Yan defeated Song over three rounds in March 2024, then took five-round decisions over Deiveson Figueiredo, Dvalishvili twice and a three-round decision over Marcus McGhee. The sequence shows that his recent decision trend is not tied exclusively to one opponent or one scheduled distance.
Mechanically, Yan sustains offense without depending on a single finishing event. Across 63 tracked rounds, he has landed 1,584 significant strikes at 55 percent accuracy. His career rates sit at 5.16 significant strikes landed and 4.24 absorbed per minute. That combination creates active rounds: he produces enough volume to build scorecards, but opponents also find enough offense to keep his fights from becoming low-output control sessions.

Azamat Bekoev’s withdrawal erases a -400 matchup and resets Andre Petroski’s betting case
The cancelled UFC Vegas 123 bout removes a volatile striker-versus-wrestler handicap, while Petroski’s reported rebooking cannot yet be priced from the available evidence.
Islam Makhachev’s delay shifts the welterweight betting question from opponent to matchup
Makhachev passed on Carlos Prates and will wait for the interim-title winner, leaving bettors with a proven control profile but no opponent-specific edge yet.
