Petr Yan’s Rematch Map Points to Volume and Duration, Not a Quick Finish
Fresh off another five-round decision, Yan’s repeatable pace and defensive wrestling shape the early betting questions around possible returns against Song Yadong or Sean O’Malley.
Petr Yan has two familiar names circulating around his next title assignment, but bettors do not yet have a fight to price. Sherdog reported that speculative matchups involving Yan against Song Yadong and Sean O’Malley have surfaced even though neither rematch has been announced.
That distinction matters. Yan fought only two days before this snapshot was generated, beating Merab Dvalishvili by unanimous decision at UFC 333. He remained the bantamweight champion and the No. 4 pound-for-pound fighter in the Oct. 25 rankings. Any immediate betting conclusion must therefore separate what Yan has established in the cage from what remains unknown about his next opponent, timing and bout structure.
The established part is substantial: Yan has won five straight decisions, including two consecutive five-round wins over Dvalishvili. The speculative part is everything needed to turn that form into a wager against Song or O’Malley.
Yan’s current form is built for sustained rounds
Yan’s last five fights all reached the scorecards. That run includes three five-round decisions and two three-round decisions, with victories over Dvalishvili twice, Marcus McGhee, Deiveson Figueiredo and Song.
This is not simply a streak to follow. The mechanism is a durable, layered game that can keep producing offense without requiring Yan to chase a finish. Across 17 archived bouts and 63 rounds, he has landed 1,584 significant strikes, completed 32 takedowns and accumulated 43 minutes of control. His career rates sit at 5.16 significant strikes landed per minute and 1.7 takedowns per 15 minutes.

Yan also owns an 86 percent takedown defense rate. That matters for duration markets because opponents have not consistently found an easy way to erase his offense through top control. He can defend entries, return to striking and add his own takedowns without turning every grappling exchange into a submission hunt. His submission rate is only 0.1 attempts per 15 minutes, with two attempts across the 63-round sample.
